Strange letter from Egg?

I received a letter today from Egg reminding me my payment is due on such and such a day and that as I have a direct debit set up I should ensure there are sufficient funds in my account to cover the payment. I have never missed or made a late payment on this account so don't really understand why they sent this letter. It also included a list of all the contacts for debt problems such as Citizens Advice, Payplan etc. Has anyone else received one of these?

Are you sure it is from Egg?
It could be a phising excercise - they will expect you to phone up; as part of the 'security' process will probably get you to reveal date of birth and card number etc etc.
Send Egg a secure message.0 -
Thanks for your reply. No, I hadn't thought of that and as you say the immediate reaction is to ring and question the letter. I'll do as you suggest and send a secure message.jonesMUFCforever wrote: »Are you sure it is from Egg?

Send Egg a secure message.
Just read the letter again and it has my card number, credit limit and outsatanding balance so doubt it's a phishing trip. It says the reason for writing is they are being proactive in helping customers paying avoidable bank charges. It also invites me to contact them either by phone or secure message so appears to be genuine.0 -
I would say it's legit. I know a few issuers are doing similar.
Basically, it's aimed at people that may start to struggle with their debts.
If you are keeping up to date on your affairs then unsure why they sent you this letter!
However their criteria may be looking at overall picture and perhaps your commitment levels on other products too.0
