Sorry - confused by your question. Are you looking for 'a cheap Conveyancer' or is your concern that you 'dont want to pick a bad one'????0

go cheap, get cheap.
they won't be charging enough to keep you updated, or to promptly return your emails or to return your calls or even take them. god forbit a Friday evening email before the w/e to simply update you.
and will they chase the other lawyer to keep things moving, or will they look through the contract papers before they send them out to the Buyer to pre-empt any likely Buyer questions to avoid delays later on
or will they actually add on hidden fees, like for discharging your mortgage.
oh the list continues with the cheapos.
My advice is to always look at your local solicitor firms. You know they rely on their reputation, and ask your local independent estate agents for recomemndations (if you are using a national one they often refer away to legal firms who pay very large cashback into the pockets of the estate agents)
good luck, be curious how you get on with your cheap conveyancerMy posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -

Why resurrect such an old thread? - the OP has long since moved on...
(Also not clear whether by 'this site' you refer to the link I posted above your post, or the MoneysavingExpert site)0 -

Oops! Sorry. Didn't notice you were the OP!
Sorry to hear too you've had a bad conveyancing experience. My intention posting the link was to refer you to the ways different conveyancers/solicitors quote, so that you could compare prices sensibly.
My link, however, took you to the 'review' section of the site, not the 'quotes' section (edited now). Apologies.0 -
I have used these a few times now and they provide a quality service at a hard to beat price: http://www.onlineconveyancing.co.uk/
Good Luck
