Experian search - questions arising

I have just asked a colleague to carry out an Experian Financial search on me and I have a few questions arising from the report

Open Current Worst

Mail Order 000000DDDD 0

Credit card 0000000000 U

credit card 00UUUUUUUU U

Settled

Bank Loan 0000000000 U
15/12/06

Bank Current 00000000?0 U
Account closed

B Soc Mortgage 0000000000 1
Closed 2006

Mail Order 000000U0U0 U
Closed 2006

Bank Mortgage 0000000000 U
Closed 2009

I assume the O means payment on time - can anyone tell me what the U the ? and the 1 mean?

The last time I fell behind on any debts was in 1992

Also, under aliases It has another surname for me listed in 2006 which I have not used since I divorced in 1993 - Can I have this removed? This is listed on a bank proposal form in 2006 at my current address. I presumably mentioned it when I opened my current account

Also my previous address from 1994 to 2004 was 87A
It also has me listed in the same street at 878 (doesn't exist) until Feb 2005 and at 89 until October 2005

Is there any of this which I can get removed, if so, what evidence would I need to provide.
If I can't get any of this information removed can I at least have an explanatory note added

Many thanks in anticipation

0 = Payments are up to date

U = The lender has been unable to give the account a statement for this month. This may be at the start of the credit agreement when the lender is allowing time for the account to be set up; when the customer is waiting for goods to be delivered; when the customer has received the goods but payment is not due to start immediately; when there is a dispute over the payments due or the goods received; or when the account is not being used.

1 = Payments are up to 1 month late

D = The account is not being used - nothing is owed

I suggest you contact Experian regarding the other information, you can however put a "notice of correction" on your file to explain your situation.

    From Experian

A Notice of Correction is a short (up to 200 words) explanatory note you can add to an entry on your credit report to explain the background to that information. Anyone searching your report in the future will see the Notice of Correction, and they must take account of it when you apply for credit.
If you would like to add a Notice of Correction to your credit report, please let us know the exact wording you would like to use. We cannot add a statement that is longer than 200 words or one we think is defamatory, frivolous or unsuitable for publication for some other reason.

The D on Experian means "Dormant" i.e. the account is not used or inactive.
I seen this on my report for one of my mail order accounts which worried me but after clarification they told me what it meant.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

    Yes I just re-checked that.
  • Many thanks for your prompt replies - I will send in an explanation about the ex husband and the addresses - I assume someone, somewhere along the line input an incorrect address!

I will also wirte to the Nationwide asking them to show me when a payment was missed as I have never missed any mortgage payments:mad:

One other question if anyone knows.

A laptop with some electoral registration data was recently stolen from the local council. My name, address and signature were on the laptop and the council set up CIFAS registration/protection for everybody affected (about 15,000 residents)

    This was around December 2009

Should the CIFAS marker have shown somewhere on the Experian report?

    Many thanks UD

Yes it should. It will probably be a "0" (Protective Registration). If it is not there, you can call CIFAS and ask them to add it yourself.

    http://www.cifas.org.uk/default.asp?edit_id=565-85

This will remain for 13 months, and will likely result in any credit applications you make not getting an instant decision, but getting referred and the creditor will write to you asking for more ID to protect your identity.

EDIT: The account showing one payment late was closed in 2006, it may have been a secured loan, or old mortgage. Being over three years ago and the only late payment marker I can see, I wouldn't expect it to affect you atall.

  • Many thanks

It's just odd that a mistaken marriage, almost 20 years ago, (19th May 1990 - 23rd March 1991) whch lasted less than a year should still be showing on my credit record

Even tho my mortgage is no longer with Nationwide, they still have my current account, I expect them to clean up their act - they charge enough!
