Glider chairs/ Nursing chairs advice needed

Hope this is in the correct forum!
Wanted to seek advice on the rocking glider chairs as sold in Mamas and Papas/ John Lewis for example.
They seem very comfortable, well built, but have any of you bought these and would you recommend them subsequently, or did they end up being fancy clothes horses (along with the exercise bike...)?
Also is there any significant difference between the various brands - Dutailier, Hauck etc?
Any advice appreciated

Noooo!
Get a big squishy armchair, then baby can rest on the arms, and you can fall asleep in these more comfortably.
You will need a pillow under your baby anyway to stop you doing your back in. Too much expensive baby equipment is targeted at new parents. You need very little, i got given my big squishy chair ;D and its still useful.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I too really coveted one of these super chairs! But they are SOOOO expensive - I ended up with one of those bentwood frame chairs like Ikea sell for £50 except I got it in Netto for £20. They bounce quite nicely and are not so comfy that you can doze off with babe in your arms! You can get a nice footstool too. I also used a v-shaped pillow...good for breastfeeding, supporting etc. Don't pay the horrific £20 Mothercare charge - Argos do one for about a fiver!!
Another point - I once worked in a school where the teacher I was covering for had brought her glider chair in from home. It was totally kn**kered and I asked her how long she'd had it...only 2 years!
Save the cash and put it in an account for junior's first car/piercing/drum kit or whatever they want to drive you round the bend with in 15 years time!!!!0 -
Thanks all for the advice.
Its funny how good at making things seem indispensible shops selling these items are, espcially when they know you are first time parents!
Think I shall keep looking!0 -
I bought the dutallier glider and footstool from kiddycare.com. Best money spent on the run up to my son being born. It is so confortable and never used for a cloths horse. In the early days lots off sick, however even though the covers do not come off I have run it under the shower with shampoo many times and it still looks like new. Worth the money compared to others we tried, really recommend the footstool as it rocks with you!
money well spent.

I also bought one of these bentwood frame chairs, I agree it is the best thing. The only thing I would say is buy one with a light colour. Mine is navy and the dye runs on it, not so great to get up from an excess milk flow to find my skin has turned blue!0 -
First, I'm going for a record for resurrecting a three-year old thread!
Secondly, do people still stand by these? Kiddicare have a basic Hauck chair for £80.
What do you reckon?Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I wouldn't get one personally. Baby nurses in bed with me or in the family living room (in said squishy armchair!), don't see why I should need one.
Would rather keep te £80 ++ in my pocket!0 -
Whether I use it or not, I won't know until babe is here, but I had to have one after trying one out at my antenatal class! We went for:

Its still in the box at the mo (waiting for the nursery to be finished) but it was a definate must have for me0 -
Thanks Squashy and SeptemberBaby. The final choice is of course down to Mrs Magyar who tried the reclining version and loved it.
If nothing else, it will make a perfectly good clothes horse!Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
