Acer Aspire 3000 has no power

Options
I hsave been having some problems with my lap top recently and have been running it direct from ac power without battery as battery needed replacing. Everything been fine until recently when laptop kept turning itself off owing to lack of power even though was connected to ac. Now it won't even switch on aand the power light is not illuminated.

I have used my ac adaptor on another pc and that pc works fine so it can't be the adaptor.

Where do I go from here ?

  • If the laptop worked previously when just connected via the ac adaptor, but now doesn't then it's an internal power problem. Probably with the motherboard.

Many people argue that you should take your battery out for periods of time if your laptop is connected to the mains, since the battery isn't achieving its optimum recharge cycles.

The only option would be to replace the battery to see if it'll take power from that. Or unfortunately my instincts tell me your motherboard has gone... which with laptops is not usually easy to replace. Difficult to tell without seeing it

it probably needs the power connector insde the case resoldering . I did mine myself but laptop repair places can do it for you . Mine was the same, not charging the battery etc and after it was refixed, it charged it again.

Replacing the battery doesn't help ... battery would only give 7/8 mins of running time ... it did used to work off that just before this problem ... now battery is either completely discharged or power unable to be drawn from it ...

What signs should i be looking for which would suggest the motherboard has "gone" ?

This seems a cheaper option than the mother board ... my wife is an avionics technician so is well used to soldering ... will definitely give it a try ...
  • Never thought about that. Definitely worth a try!
I'm impressed, if I ever need an avionics technician, I'll PM you ;)
