Los Angeles to London return flights

Does anybody have any tips for how to buy the cheapest flights when flying from the US?
I have told my sister I will pay for her to come and visit me here in London and she will be departing from Los Angeles. Since I made the offer the price seems to have gone up by s couple of hundred dollars (I have just looked at sites like travelocity.com).
It will be for a few days at the end of August.
Thanks!

Finding cheap fares can be a bit of a black art. I know that when I was looking for flights to New York earlier in the year the prices seemed to fluctuate up and down again over a period of a few days, so it's worth checking every few days just in case the fares have come back down again. Some sites have fare trackers which will alert you when the fare reaches a certain level.
I once heard somewhere that the best time to by air tickets is between 2-6 weeks before the flight, as long as it's not too full. I don't know if that's true or not though.
You have to be careful when buying return flights from the US though as some sites will only accept credit cards with US billing addresses.
Finally, if the price to the UK is too much then it may work out cheaper for her to fly to Amsterdam or somewhere like that and hop on Easyjet. It may seem like a long-winded way of doing it, but a friend of did that when flying to the US a couple of years ago and saved £100.0
