'Are we killing our pets?' Petfood article.

Some vets state that yearly boosters aren't necessary in some cases, and there's evidence out there that they could be harmful for your animals. Obviously though it would be up to you to do your research and make up your own mind. I'm going to look into it some more before I decide whether to vaccinate Pepsi every year. But like people have said, it might be necessary for insurance purposes.

I think people need to be careful of where they get their evidence from and that it is UK based. Lots of stuff from the US doesn't apply here etc.The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -

Article discussing how commercial petfood could be making our pets ill, and why Vets will sell and recommend it despite this. Thoughts?

There's a link here from a vet which goes over the topic if anyone is interested. It discusses why boosters are unnecessary as the original injections will vaccinate a cat for life, and some cases of cats becoming ill from boosters. http://www.holisticat.com/vaccinations.html

Having read SO many online articles from the website with numerous horrible and obvious spelling errors, I'm inclined to agree with you
However, it does raise a point for discussion, even if the finer points of the article are a bit off.

AFAIK US vaccines are different from UK vaccines? (sorry, not trying to threadjack but think it's important)The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
I'm not sure, thanks for pointing it out though
Would the same issues stand with the UK vaccines, how is it that they're different to the US ones?

What about it? It helps protect animals against potentially fatal diseases. Both my cats had their yearly shots, one got to 15 and the other one is still hanging in here at 16 1/2. I wouldn't consider not vaccinating the dog. I have a fantastic vet who puts my animals interests in front of even mine, he trained for years and is a partner in their rather large practice, I have no reason not to trust his opinion on this.
Your vet earns a substantial amount of income from yearly innoculations, as do the pharma companies.
The jabs contain the same each year, unlike say the vaccine for the flu virus, which changes every year because the virus itself slightly changes. I know a little about immunology and from the research I've done, I can't see that cat antibodies last a proportionately shorter time than human antibodies. Most jabs we have we only needs once (plus one booster).
The only reason why pet jabs are given yearly is because their is no data to support long term use. It simply doesn't exist. And who's going to do it? Certainly not pharma.0 -

I don't remember all the details, I think they may vaccinate for different diseases that we don't have here (rabies?). I know some of their legally sold flea treatments have been shown to be fatal in some animals. We seem to have stricter rules here.
I've questioned my vet about the safety of yearly vaccines, and he says there's no problem with it. He hasn't vaccinated Angus this year because he has CRF and has been so up and down the past few months he didn't want to put his immune system under any more pressure, so he doesn't inject blindly.
I haven't done a lot of research on it but have never seen any solid evidence against UK vaccinations. That's not to say there isn't any, I just haven't seen it.The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
