AEG oven not getting hot enough

Hi all, I've been searching the net, but can't find an answer to this! Haven't posted here for a while, but hoping someone can answer this:

I have an AEG fan oven and it doesn't get hot enough. I bought a new (genuine) door seal and then a thermometer to check the actual temp, and it seems it takes about 20 minutes to reach 150 degrees (way too long), and then stays at that temperature.

Could it be the heating element? I've seen videos on replacing them, and it seems straightforward, but I don't want to waste another £20 on the problem!

Thanks in advance,

Jim

I can't tell you what it is but I will say that heating elements either work or don't. If the temperature is wrong it is going to be something wrong with either the thermostat or possibly some safety device if the fan has stopped (last bit based on previous post not on any actual knowledge of fan ovens).
  • 150 degrees and you think the heating element is open circuit.

    OK.

    Is the fan(s) working.

How many heating elements in the oven in total 1, 2, or more, you will need to know!

(I do not own an AEG or a Neff, BTW)
  • Well, I unscrewed the inside rear panel of the oven last night, and the element is a single one, with two turns. It heats up instantly, and I managed to burn my finger on it testing it!

Fan appears to be fine as well. I did remove a somewhat clogged up grille which clips over the back panel (like an additional grille over the fan) and ran a quick test with the thermometer. It got up to about 130 degrees in 10 mins.

I didn't have any more time, so switched it off again. What I forgot to mention is that the dial which controls the temperature (it's a digital readout on this AEG Competence B6100-M) is dodgy. When you turn the dial, the readout randomly jumps about from 0-300 degrees. It does settle on what appears to be the correct figure at the correct position (it doesn't turn infinitely), so maybe taking this apart and cleaning the contacts would be a good idea?

Do I need a new thermostat?

Thanks again for all the replies.

From what you've posted it does sound like the thermostat could be the problem.

I read up on the fan thing and it seems that if the fan isn't going it doesn't transport the hot air away from area where the themostat is located quickly enough so it never brings all the oven up to the set temperature (which sounds logical enough to me).

If it maintains a steady temperatute according to your thermometer it may just be that indicated "set" temperature is incorrect - maybe you should try setting it higher to see if it will get up to the temperature you need.
  • double oven, top oven working, bottom one not, light & fan come on but it's not heating up? Have family comming for big sunday roast really need it working, cant do roast, roast veg, tatties etc all in top oven, help!
  • Test the Element ?
  • if it stays at that temp, then it must be the thermostat, or something between the switch and the thermostat.
A thermostat should be fairly low cost and a good place to start
