Advice needed-should i keep my Cat C damaged car??
I bought a renault scenic in Oct 2009 for £800-couple of faults on it being passenger electric window opens but won't shut unless using button on driver side & rear window wiper doesn't work. Someone crashed into me end of Dec and damaged my boot door, lights & bumper still fine, but my exhaust fell apart in the middle under the car think maybe due to the force of the crash, but possibly due to other reasons? The insurance company have declared it a Cat C as it's not economical to repair and offered us £1200, but we will recieve £1080 as we decided to keep the car. I'm still trying to get my head around everything and would like some advice wether i should keep the car or sell it?
I know if i keep it i will ned to get a vic check done which is £41 + repairs but hoping i could pick up a boot door from a scrapyard, then just repairs need doing to the exhaust and to get door fitted-not sure how much this will cost? Do i also need to pay to re-register it? But my OH is worried that it's going to end up costing us more than it's worth as MOT due in May and he's worried there's going to be something wrong with it and will cost us a fortune-always the pessimist! He reckons we should just put it on Ebay as it is and see what we get for it-i'm really not sure though.
Also does anyone know, if i do decide to keep the car will this affect my insurance with it now being a CAT C?
Thanks for any advice
Francesca

You will need to declare it to your insurance, as for wether it will affect it depends on the company.
My Inclination? Even if you keep the car you get more than you paid for it in the first place, even if you cant get it roadworty, you could make a killing by stripping it and selling the parts on ebay. Or even selling it on ebay as a Cat C I bet you could get at least £300 for it. (remember, your ins co have valued its current worth as £120 so anything more than that is bonus money!)
I believe it will need to be re-MOT'd (although, dont quote me on that) if you wish to return it to the road.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
