Sorry (My lost post explained everything perfectly!)
I meant
Which is better
a) 2007 reg Toyota Aygo (5 dr) at £5,400
b) New "equivalent" Toyota Aygo at £7,500 approx with scrappage discount
THANKS IN ADVANCE!0 -
Depends how deep your pockets are and how good condition the 07 one is.0

Not much in it.
The brand new one is going to loose on average about £1000 a year in depreciation but will have warranty.
A 3+ year old will continue to loose £500 a year for some time.
If you put a figure of £300 on the value of a warranty (you need to put a cash value on it somehow and it's about what it would cost for an extended warranty) and then £55 a year for MOT, £75 breakdown cover, if you do enough miles your heading towards slightly more expensive services and tyre replacement needed (new car starts with new tyres) you get close to another £500 in expenses the new car does not have.
It is interesting to note that 2 years ago a 5 door 1.0+ Aygo was selling for £7500 without any scrappage discounts. What exact model were you loking at anyway?0 -
How much is the banger worth? Gotta factor that in too, because you can flog that seperatly (say its worth £500 you essentially knock the 07 car to £4,900)Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0

I normally buy cars 6-12 months old but going on those prices I would buy the new one personally.0
-
OP you really want the new one don't you..:)?
Go on go and get it...lol0 -
I am in the same position as the OP. I have decided to buy a Peugeot 107 1.0 Urban Lite 3Dr - basically the same car as the Aygo - built in the same factory. The list price is GBP 8495 less 2000 scrappage leaves 6495 to pay. 1000 pound cheaper than the Toyota. We usally buy Toyotas - family members have owned 7 Toyotas over the last 10 years including an Aygo.

List price of the equivalent Aygo is GBP 8257 and it holds it's value better due to the badge. Where is this 1000 coming from? Is the scrappage deal offered by Toyota not as generous?0 -
Sorry for not thanking you sooner for your replies.:)
In the end I decided that the scrappage scheme was too good for me personally to miss! This was despite some very negative comments on the scrappage scheme when I posted earlier asking for opinions.
To be fair, many of the negative posts did make valid points, and I also saw similar negative posts on other forums.
But having looked at all the arguments, I think the truth is somewhere in between the 2 extreme views of "scrappage in a joke designed to make the Government look good" and "scrappage is a dream come true for car industry and customers". There are clearly pluses and minuses which have already been discussed in great length.
I was almost put off by the majority view, but for me personally it has been excellent.
I owned my Peugeot 106 from new since 1995 - it had been excellent but was beginning to cost me more and more money to get through the MOT and increasinly I noticed it was guzzeling fuel at an alarming rate. Not only that, but since XMas it has stubbornly refused to start on cold mornings (You can imagine how convenient that is this winter!). THe car was valued at £230 - (I might have been able to push it to £350 privately)
So I jumped in for the scrappage just in time last night!
In the end I went for the Kia Picanto 1.1. It met all my criteria: Just within my budget (So only have to borrow a very little, if anything); Cheap to run - Low Tax - Comfortable (For a small car) - Reliable (At least as far as I can see from customer comments).
I paid £5,600 (£7,600- £2,000) - for a new car that's pretty amazing, and it includes all the extras (Air con - adjustable seat - remote central locking etc). Plus 7 year warranty (In my opinion they would not offer 7 year warranty if they were not confident about reliability, so that's a good sign)
Yes, the boot size is a bit small (my wife did moan a bit about that), but that is only going to be a slight inconvenience for me as we can put the seat down when with suitcase (Just the 3 of us!).
After 1 year I could probably sell it for at least that (If I wanted) so I cannot really lose - all I have lost is worry about what do with my ex beloved 106 and all the worry about getting it through the MOT. If you add to that all the money I will save on fuel and repairs and all the inconvenience of sellling a wreck, its a damn good deal! Yes, the service is a bit pricey but nothing compared with my repair bills for the 106.
THe salesman did say I had to hurry (I know, not that old one - but this time I could believe it as we are indeed near the end of the scheme - and other than that he was not as pushy as e.g. the Hyundai salesman - I considered just about every super mini on the list before lumping for the Kia!)
I think this only works out a good deal for the cheaper end of the market though - even had i the money, i cannot see it being good for a £20,000 + car where you only have small % saving.
Ah - should have done this sooner -that would have saved me the VAT increase (and even more if I had done it before my MOT in October- but then again,, for me it is a big decision, but gald I rushed it through last night!!!
Drinks all round - cannot wait to collect:beer:
(in April, yikes! - my only prob now is how to get my 106 engine started without spending money to keep it going until April!
PLEASE answers or suggesitons welcome (Please do not say just push it to Asda! :rotfl:
(AA want £80 to come to my house, nice people!)0 -
A 7yr warranty commits you to 7 yrs of main dealer servicing - good thing? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
