PC World Laptop repair taking almost 28 days

grateful for any help with this...bought an Acer laptop last january which developed a monitor fault. It was collected 24th Dec [although due for collection 23rd!]from my house and still hasnt been returned (now 27days later). I have been on the phone to them and been in store to complain and the techie guy in store last week said that if not returned by 28 days then i would be entitled to a new one?! Question is how long do i wait before heading back down there... what would you do? getting a new laptop should come with a 'new' warranty . Has anyone experienced this before that might be able to advise?? thanks in advance..

Yes i did this, they put a claim in on the 29th day that cancels your repair, you then wait up to TWO weeks to be sent your vouchers through the post. These should be (or what they think) enough to cover the SPECS of your laptop. These can only be used instore. For me they issued a £600 voucher to cover a £800 laptop. This would have been ok if it actually covered specs. but it didnt.

When you get your amount, check to see if its enough to buy a laptop with SAME or BETTER specs, right down to the smallest thing like webcam resolution.

If it isnt, ring and enquire what laptop they based their offer on, research its details, go into store with the details of your laptop, their offer and your vouchers, explain and get them to find a laptop with the specs you had, and they will issue new vouchers.

I got a £1000 laptop in the end coz their spec has a worse webcam;) thats it, no other laptops had the right combination of specs.

Dont leave them wriggle room because they will try to exploit you, so all you can do in return is exploit them hahaha:money:
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

They told you that after 28 days, you'd be entitled to a new laptop. When I worked with Currys, in these cases the customer would return to the store and store would verify that the laptop was still in the service centre. Customer would then be credited with the value of the item for an exchange. So call the service centre tomorrow to see if they still have the laptop and take it from there.

What do you mean by a "new" warranty?

Things may be slightly different with PC World but when I worked in Currys just over a year ago that was the process for Whatever Happens service agreements (extended warranties). Manufacturers warranties were as described above.
  • thanks, 'new' warranty wise, i meant that the one for my old laptop was almost up and in fact has now expired during the 27 days since they had it in for repair.

If your laptop is repaired then the repair has a 90 day warranty, so if the same fault occurred, you'd get it fixed. If they replace the laptop then you get a new 1 year warranty.

When I worked in Currys, I was there for 6.5 years and smaller products that have an exchange warranty are swapped then covered for another year. There were a lot of customers who would conveniently have a fault in their product days before the warranty expired and they'd exchange it for a new one every year.

On a few occasions, I did audit trails on these exchanges and found that there are people who actually exchanged their kettle every 11 months for a new one and had been doing so for 5 or more years. The problem was even worse with tech products such as mp3 players, customers were just buying 1 and getting a free upgrade every year.

If they go to that trouble for a £20 kettle or mp3 player then I think a new warranty for laptops would be abused beyond belief.
