We have started making our own tortilla wraps and they are SO much nicer and cheaper than packet ones :j you gotta give it a try ;)

Which recipe do you use? There seems to be loads of different ones.

Also, does anyone have any cheaper alternative to choc chips - they seem to be edging up nearer to a quid a packet and the kids favourite is chocolate ;)

I bake often and whenever a recipe calls for chocolate chips I just buy a bar of chocolate (good quality dark choc or even tesco value, depending on the budget!) and roughly chop it up with a sharp knife. It works out much cheaper and you can get nice chocolate chunks instead of measley little chips ;) HTH.

I make chocolate chunks by putting a bar of chocolate in the fridge, then when it's nice and hard, I bash it with a rolling pin!

Thanks, Value choc bars duly purchased and will be put in the fridge and bashed into chips :D Works out much cheaper.

Have also picked up two more boxes of the £1 cereal that's on offer as the kids approve (will tackle OH's portion control when pouring kids breakfasts another time).

Also got 9p shortbread :D and yellow sticker teacakes (till I can find a recipe). I stopped myself from buying loads more than I needed - though cheapy apple puffs sneaked their way into my basket - really shouldn't have bothered :( it's all puff and no apple just a thin spread of apple jam :o

  • We do this too with the chocolate and when DS is baking - he does most of our baking, excellent cake maker - you get very generous chunks of chocolate!
  • I agree re making your own choc chips- I buy good quality dark chocolate when it's on offer and chop it up with a knife- it tastes much nicer than shop bought choc chips.
