Right just planned an online shop for next week and made it up to £100 (to get free delivery). That includes 3 weeks worth of cereal/porridge for me and OH, meat to last till 14 Feb (all on various offers), tuna to last OH till 16 feb, washing powder to last the month, eggs, squash, and other bits to last over 2 weeks. It also included apple juice, basics biscuits, and a few basics treats
So I think the only things we'd need till mid-feb would be fresh fruit + veg (aldi/lidl/offers), bread (though there's some in the freezer), milk, and probably more cheap biscuits.
The only thing I'll need to do is work out how I fit it all in our small freezer
If I can make it that long without having spent more than half my budget I'll be seriously pleased (payday is sometime from 22nd to 25th) as that will only leave me 10 days max till payday.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Don't knock Lidl meat until you try it, I have found it to be fine, lean and good value.
Another thing is Aldi long life skimmed milk, it doesnt have that UHT taste, so if put in a bottle the difference is not noticeable.

I've regularly had their gammon, bacon, smoked salmon and pork loin joints as well as their cooked sliced meatsMy favourite though is their smoked haddock fish cakes.
All the meat I've ordered is meat we usually eat but on offer. If it's not on offer, I've not added it
For the remainder of Feb, I will be looking at Lidl/Aldi and also be on the yellow sticker huntworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

We have started making our own tortilla wraps and they are SO much nicer and cheaper than packet ones :j you gotta give it a try:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
You mentioned giving up soda farls in the first post. They're really easy to make and not expensive. I use soda bread flour - Mortons - which is about £1 for 1.5kg - but 250g makes 4 decent sized farls - so about 17p plus 1/4pt milk. If you can't get soda flour, you could use value flour with bicarb etc which probably would be even cheaper. You can use sour milk in them as well.
The recipe on the back of the flour bag says 1lb of flour for 4 farls - but they were enormous!!!!!!!“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Hi Newlywed, personally don't use Sainsburys as I think it's very expensive and can only praise Aldi and Asda for their prices. Know you have a problem with Asda but if it's online then it'll be fine. I do a big online shop once a month from Asda and top up at Aldi. It's amazing!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

I think which supermarket is cheapest depends entirely on the food that you buy. I get a veg box delivery, so only use the supermarket for store cupboard stuff, and when I have compared the prices for my shopping list, Sainsburys always works out cheaper for me. It just depends what you eat!0

It really does depend on what you buy and at what level in the label hierachyMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

I spent yesterday evening making bubble and squeak cakes as I know we won't use all those aldi sprouts up.
I had a bright idea and used my burger press and tupperware storage pots to control portion size and make it easier to put in the freezer.
So that's 12 made - we'll have 2 each tonight with mackerel and then that leaves enough for 2 more meals for us.
The left over bread was portioned into 2 slices and frozen.
Will go to Tesco and get more of that £1 kellogs cereal that's on offer, and some more value biccies (the stress turns us all into biscuit monsters).
Sainsbug order of meat, tins and household bits comes tomorrow and I have an action plan to make burgers that evening and freeze them.
There's some bananas that are destined for banana bread or banana muffins so plan to do that tonight.
And there's more potatoes left to be mashed and attempted to be made into potato scones/cakes/farls (prefer potato farls to soda farls).
Does anyone have a good recipe for teacakes? Can find hot cross buns but not sure they're the same? I've got yeast, bread flour, raisins and spices.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
