Fast growing bush with thorns
I hope someone can help me. I want a fast growing bush that has thorns bigger the better. Someone broke into our shed sun night luckly didn't take anything but we are trying to make the garden as secure as poss. Done everything the police have adviced us to do but I would like bush or training plant to go across our back fence.
Thanks

You could try pyracantha, berberis, holly or mahonia. Pyracantha will grow against a wall. If you want a climbing plant then maybe a rose.
Hawthorn can be fast growing but can get a bit toooooo big.0 -
How about a rambler rose? or you can grow certain roses as a hedge. Rugosas work well and have lovely haws in the Winter, will grow into a thorny thick hedge.
Depends how much space you want to fill, but a very good rambler is
Rambling Rector, (aka Seagull) it has lovely double cream scented flowers followed by colourful haws in winter. It will grow fast and go for 30feet!
There are many others if you want a different colour or slightly smaller/less vigorours.....look at any good rose book or website for a full choice.

Hi turbo, a bramble is about the fastest growing, reaching nearly over a meter every 2 weeks in the height of the growing season. For a really thick impenetrable hedge though you'd have to go for sloe or hawthorn which will take a bit longer but give better resultsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
