Scooter insurance

I have been having problems with MCE insurance. I started the insurance for my scooter on the 5th of May. The next day I tried to buy a tax disc online as I hadn't received my documents. I couldn't..... I waited for another couple of days - sent emails - no reply. Called them and then they said they would resend. They resent, I received them on the 22nd of June but the details were in fact incorrect..... The wrong registration number (even though I was covered by them the year before!!). So, they changed the registration and sent me the new documents. All of this of course meant I paid for over 2 weeks insurance - even though I couldn't use the bike. So they refunded this. Even worse, if I had been caught by the police not realising, I suppose I could have been banned and fined!!!

So now I get the new policy and it's 50 pounds cheaper. Their excuse is that it's a one off deal and that the insurance company wanted 43 pounds for the cover between the 5th and the 23rd. But why should I pay for this?? Where do I stand legally. Who do I complain to. The BIBA and FIA don't seem to want to know. Thanks.

Unfortunately errors do happen... I have certainly known cases where we have made errors with certificates of insurance and our policyholder has been stopped by the police. We have obviously admitted to the police that it was an error on our behalf and not our policyholder and so it has all been sorted out without significant problems or such.

Obviously in your situation it is slightly different as you werent able to use the vehicle due to the tax situation. You need to get a final response in writting from the company. Once you have this, if it isnt to your satisfaction you can complain to the FOS for a review of the case. Of cause you need to do your sums first - if they are giving you £50 off but charging you £43 for the earlier period of cover it may be better than getting the £43 waived but then not being elligable for the £50 one off offer.
