    For about £70 you can ger a complete spring loaded wooden ladder with hatch that is the same width as the joists (worth measuring first). Simple to fit you just need a hand getting it up there, load from the top onto a couple (OK 4) of 2x1 blocks screwed to the underside of the joist, hanging over.
    There seems to be a general 'Cheap as Chips' theme on this forum, but some things are just better if you spend a bit more. A £30 one will not be so good I think Ormus

    just google youngman loft ladders. hundreds of em for less than 40/50 quid.

    I use a stool, and push the hatch in a pull down the ladder. for that 30 seconds inconvenience it seems a no brainer to me.

    maybe its just me. but i dont see the point in spending lots of dosh on a (posher?) ladder that i will use maybe say 3 or 6 times in a year?

    i thought this site was called MSE?

    where do you get those prices from? Most , if not all the wooden ladders costs at least £90:o
