Benefits and seperation

Hi all, not sure this is still up and running as last post was 2004.
Well here is more story

I have just seperated from my wife of 17 years, i am living with my parents at the moment as i am still paying for everything on and in the house my wife and son are in.

She works weekends roughly about 20 hours earning £140. I work and am paying everything at the moment, mortgage electric loans credit card council tax, everything. We have never clamned for anything before so this is all new to me, but was wanting to know what she can claim for and how we go about it, cos until this is sorted neither of us can move on. Any help would be gratefully received :(

Your ex partner will have to cancel the joint tax credits claim and claim again as a single person. She will be entitled to child tax credits, working tax credits and child benefit. She wont be entitled to any housing benefit etc.

Check out the CSA website for an idea of the child maintenance you would be expected to pay on your income too.

How much you pay is between the two of you but it's useful to have a starting point.

She can claim a 25% reduction in council tax for being the only adult in the house and quite possibly council tax benefit too.
