Don't say 'We woz robbed in the world cup quarter finals' but 'May the best team win'
If you have a UK or Eire issued passport you don't need a visa for Portugal.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
you need a valid passport nothing else

Hi Ferret
I've recently booked some flights to Spain/Portugal (north west). That's all I've done so far - any tips on what you've found out re the DIY hol, such as accomodation: book in advance or pick up something en-route, hire car vs public transport, etc, etc?0 -
Hi 77
I searched for weeks then found this site and its members sorted me out.
For Accomodation i used http://www.holidayroomsdirect.com/
For Car Hire http://www.economycarhire.com/
And Travel Insurance http://www.moneysupermarket.com/
No tips really but i will tell you all the relevant documents are in my hand and i saved around 450 on a packaged holiday, and all is how i want it
Excellent

When you're there make sure you do not miss out on the grilled sardines: they are the best for years!! Ask for 'sardinhas assadas'. Should be costing around €6-8. Swill them down with some local white wine: a 'vinho verde' is great at lunchtime, as it's fairly light. Bom apetite!!RIP independent MSE.

Also try the Chicken Piri Piri. If its the Algarve you are heading to there is an excellent restaurant in Guia which is famous for its Piri Piri. It must be good as the locals all go there.
Also try the plenty of fresh fish available. An excellent restaurant in Lagos on the harbour front. Youll know which one it is because again the locals flood here0 -
Just got back and had a fantastic time. Went package, but only because I didnt have time to organise anything and it was all a bit last minute (had to wait for new babys passport to come back!). Have done it DIY before, and prefer it to package. you will enjoy it plus the freedon of not being one of the crowd!0
