DVLA and the Data Protection Act. Petition to Gov

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/DVLASwansea/

This wasnt started by me, I wouldn't of used the word "fine"!!

DVLA and the Data Protection Act.

Last year the DVLA Sold our 2,000000 personal details to private companies in the guise of an administration fee charging £5.000000.00. Major Supermarket Companies put the policing of their car parking spaces in the hands of private companies who blatantly advertise “They will obtain you details from the DVLA at Swansea”. I believe the DVLA are in breach of the Data Protection Act as they have no control over how these details are used. Last year the DVLA sold 2,000000 details yet did only 68 audits on the companies they sold them to. Gordon Brown has gone on record saying “Put public services back in the hands of the public”. The DVLA sell almost 50% of our details by electronic data transfer. You can now be fined for parking on a white line in a Super Market Car Park yet there is no statuary size for the parking bay. The letter you receive from the Car Park Policing Company is threatening and bullying saying they will “Put the matter in the hands of a Debt Collection Agency” The fines are un-reasonable and are difficult to defend in law.

  • I can't see it doing much good but that's no reason not to try, Good Luck.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • I had to laugh at this:

"All swan, duck and geese ponds, and preferably in nature reserves aswell, should have an indoor shelter with warm bedding for the birds to go into at night in harsh icy and snowy winters. Otherwise the birds will be frozen overnight. And for them to go into in the daytime aswell if they wish to. Also some extra food to eat and water available (unfrozen). The park or nature reserve could employ a park keeper or park ranger to make sure that all the ducks, swans and geese are all warm, dry and sheltered and comfortable for the night and provide the extra food and water made available to them. The birds could use this shelter all year round both day and night."
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"

Am I missing something here? Its not a petition against the Duck and Vermin Licensing Authority.

  • This forum just gets funnier and funnier, what on earth is going on, has the work that is going on caused this mix up?

They are not in the slightest bit difficult to defend.

I'm sure this has been done before. The response from DVLA etc is always the same.

I know that, you know that.

I dont think the originator of the petition knew a lot about these invoices but his heart was probably in the right place.

I guess my point is that the petition looks like it is to change the law. People could well be confused into thinking that unless the law changes, then they DO need to pay these "fines".

I read it that the fines are difficult for the PPCs to defend under scrutiny (indefensible?)?

It's certainly confusing but if their heart is in the right place then I will sign the petition, can't do any harm.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
