DVLA Still don't want my money! (Just a Rant)

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed wth them.

As some of you will remember Insurance and MOT all run out around 28-9th January and Tax at the end of January.

So I have being try to tax the car online. First off wouldn't allow me tax it because MOT wasn't valid in February, so I have had that done about 10 days ago. No joy because my insurance isn't valid in February.

So last week I have renewed my insurance from 29th. But even though that was done about a week ago it is still not showing up on the database. I wonder if it won't show until the 29th?

Driving me nuts that you can't pay and it is one less thing to worry about.:mad:

Your insurance will not update the insurance database until after the 29th when your insurance comes into force. It can take around 72hours for them to do this. It's nothing to do with DVLA.

If you have your insurance certificate or covernote then you will be better of taxing at post office.

    Not any more, no.
I'm sure you get 5 days grace if the disc hasn't been received after renewing online or by 'phone?
  • As long as there is a valid insurance policy in place for the vehicle, it will show up as insured on the Motor Insurers' Database - use www.askmid.com to check if your car is listed as having a valid insurance database.

THis is true however the OP insurance lapses 29th Jan. The new policy will not me on MID until after this date. OP i use to have this problem and I had to resort to taxing car at post office at end of month.

This is what I suspected might be the case. You say it has nothing to do with the DVLA but these are the guys that set up the blasted system.

The car is on the database today and to me that is all they really should need at this point in time to allow me to tax the vehicle.

The database really has nothing to do with DVLA. It's operated (and was set up) by insurance companies. All that happens is when you tax online/by phone the DVLA accesses the database to check that you are insured for when the tax is due to start (same as any one can using the MID link). DVLA has no control or other access to it.

Yes it's frustrating but it's not DVLA's fault.

One way round it for future is to buy 6months tax this time, then a year's once the 6months expires. It will cost you 10% more for the 6 month disc but you will never have the problem agian with your insurance/mot/tax running out same time!

It's only main Post Offices that issue Tax Discs. My local sub office doesn't.

My local PO still does - or at least they did back at the end of March last year.
