Santander credit card identification requirements

Hi, I recently applied online for a Santander credit card and I've just got my welcome letter saying that I've been "conditionally accepted" and that I must send back the signed credit agreement and the completed Direct Debit form.

But they've also included a sheet of "customer identification requirements". It says that they are required to verify my identity and gives a big list of all the forms of ID that I can send them, including photocopies of my passport, driving license and letters from HMRC.

But I can't help wondering if it's a mistake. I'm no stranger to credit card applications and this is the first time I've been asked to provide such information. And the way the sheet is phrased, it seems like it's aimed at people opening bank accounts. And there's no mention of ID requirements on the welcome letter - it just says I need to send back:
  • signed credit card agreement
  • completed direct debit form
So has anyone else had this? I've called their credit card services number to ask what to do (twice), but they don't seem to know anything.

Just photocopy your latest bank statement and passport and send it off with the forms.... not a lot to ask really, and it may secure you the card.

  • Yeah, I suppose. I just didn't want them to open the envelope and be all like "!!!!!!!? Why has this guy sent us a photocopy of his passport and bank statement?! ROFL!!!!!"

And the welcome letter makes absolutely no mention of providing ID. It just says that, in order to "start enjoying the benefits" of my new card, I need to return the signed credit agreement and direct debit mandate...

    Has anyone else had this?

Hi, I recently applied online for a Santander credit card and I've just got my welcome letter saying that I've been "conditionally accepted" and that I must send back the signed credit agreement and the completed Direct Debit form.

I have had similar needs for ID from CapOne...nothing to worry about.

As a matter of interest...how long between online application and notification of acceptance.
  • Not long, actually. About 3-4 days. What do you think that means?

Also, I have another question (4 questions):

Over the Christmas period, I put all my shopping on my Mint card (I get 9.9% because I rang up to close my account a few months back :D) and I accidentally drifted over the limit. I paid it back before the statement date (it's all online so I hardly ever check - must have been some kind of sixth sense that made me check it)

So, considering that I paid it back before the statement date, will this affect my credit rating? And will I be charged the overlimit fee? And will Santander know about this? Have they already done the credit check?
