I will be signing off tomorrow, and get my last payment through as well. Tomorrow is my last weekly sign-on after my 13 week review.

I was wondering do I give part of the booklet to them (there's perforation, where I could tear neatly, or the whole thing? There's an option to phone them to sign-off too. Which is faster/easier, in terms of getting the P45 released? I would like to give a P45 to the employer sometime next week, before getting paid weekly on a Friday, so there is no need to sort out the P46, emergency tax code, etc.... Makes the employer's life easier, just by giving the P45 straight away.

Also, my contract is only for 10 weeks. Do I start from the beginning (i.e. fortnightly sign-on - stage 0), or continue where I left off (i.e. 13-26 weeks - stage 2)?

You only give them two parts - you keep part 1A of P45 - not sure how long it will take them to send it to you though I suspect you will be taxed on an emergency basis anyway.

You must have one of the old style books, just tear the bit off and give it to them, the newer ones which are green you just fill out the whole thing and give it to them.

It usually takes a week or two for the JC people to pull their finger out and give you a p45, well It did with me, god knows why they cant just print one off there and then, it shouldn't really matter anyway, if your in a lower tax bracket the emergency codes are near enough what your tax free entitlement is anyway.

As for signing on again, yes you start from scratch, and if you've been unemployed for more than 6 months you wont receive the back to work grant as you wont be working for more than 13 weeks

I could tear my part off first, then deliver it to the employer. Or do they have to tear my part, and give it to me.

I haven't been asked to fill in a P46 yet... Looks like they could put an emergency tax code without it?

Yes, I got the old version of the booklet. I will tear the bit off and give it to the sign-on staff today, and collect my last payment.

Hope I get the P45 sometime next week, so I won't get wrongly taxed. It will be hassle to ask for a refund and stuff like that.
  • Most definately phone the number that you've been given to use when you close your claim. This will ensure that any money owing to you is paid into your account a lot quicker than if you just send your ES40 back to JCP.

I need to go into the JCP today (my usualy sign-on day) to show them my job log one last time though. Then after that I will tell them I'm signing off.
