in Cutting tax
Hi,
I am struggling to see how I express the following on the SA form which I need to get back online by the end of the month.
I opted out of our company car scheme and receive £437.50 per month via my normal pay which is taxed. I have used this money to buy my own car that I use for work purposes.
My company provides a fuel card which all fuel is purchased on for this car, and I then reimburse the company for my private mileage at £0.19 per mile. I have a log of all my busienss miles and personal miles for 08/09. The company do not pay me anything per mile for using the car for work purposes.
In this suituation what is classed as a benefit, what do I need to decalre on my SA and can I claim any tax relief as my employer doesnt pay me the maximum mileage allowance?
I am really struggling to get to grips with this so any help you can provide would be great thanks,
Craig

My husband never had a fuel card, but his company used to reimburse him for petrol. He claimed 40p per business mile (25p after 10000 miles) less the amount the company paid for petrol.
This seemed acceptable to HMRC.0 -
If you had made any profit on your expenses your employer woudl have shown these on a P11D, 08/09 had to to be given to you by July 09. So if not on there nothing to enter on SA ret.
Normally your employer should have an arrangemnt that that so long as you reimburse/pay private mileage at set rates then no profit. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cars/advisory_fuel_current.htm

There is a leaflet but doesn't really cover you. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/mileage/employee-factsheet.pdf0 -
I think the OP should be entitled to claim the tax relief on the difference between the 40ppm allowed by HMRC, and the amount paid by his employer on the "fuel card".0
