just bought a counterfeit dvd !!

Hi i am after some information please. Is it allowed to sell copy dvds on ebay as my husband has just bought some Enid Blyton dvds of the Famous Five which arrived today and they are copies!!

My daughter bought a CD that was a blatent copy. The seller was very rude when she emailed him so she turned to paypal who refunded her money.

I would try emailing the seller first.

thank you for your comments, the annoying thing is that over the last 5/6 days the cost has gone up from £10.99 and one that is selling in a couple of days is at £14.99, he is raking it in and he charges £1.60 postage. It doesnt say anywhere on the auction that he bid on that its not original

That's because if he does, and someone spots it, he will get reported

Make sure you report him for selling counterfeits, after you get your refund.

DO NOT try and sell them yourself you will be breaking the law.

Report the seller to eBay and also phone the hotline in the UK which has been set up to report pirate DVDs being sold - it is 0845 6034567.

If the auction says "comes in a sleeve" or "Region 0" then that implies that the items are fakes.

Does the seller have a username that implies he is "mad" about dvds? Based in Nottingham? If so, his auctions do state "discs only" which is a giveaway that they are copies, despite the £14.99 price tag.

It's not hard to find these auctions on eBay. To many of us phrases such as "quality is superb", "discs only" and "the episodes look to be sourced from original film prints" make it obvious that they are bootlegs.
The £10.99 auction also stated

Please note: There is currently no official release for this series - Many sellers on eBay are distributing VHS quality material onto DVD for high prices;

This auction is for episodes taken from original film prints, which are far better than the usual quality - please see below for actual screencaps from the discs you will be recieving.

I have not attempted to create sleeves or picture discs for this auction, which often misleads buyers into thinking the episodes are some form of commercially released material, the four disks come WITHOUT ARTWORK on plain discs with plain sleeves.

If you can't buy it in the shops or on Amazon, it will be a bootleg.

Please leave negative feedback saying they are bootlegs - only then will others be warned.
