icon disappeared

Options
On my laptop, on the bottom toolbar at the right hand side I usually have a wee icon that shows I'm connected to the internet. It's a wee monitor I think and when I'm connected it shows a blue bubble in front of it. For some reason it disappeared today and hasn't come back. I'm obviously still connected, but I wondered if anyone had any ideas where it's gone? I have tried the 'customize notification icons' thingy by the way, but it's not in there either....

Have you tried going into Network Connections, right-clicking the wireless connection, Properties and making sure "Show icon in notification area when connected" is ticked? Perhaps it became un-ticked accidentally...

Thanks for your help, but please can you tell me where I can find Network Connections? Sorry to sound so thick, but I can't locate it - I'm using Vista.

Mine did the same yesterday - no idea why. I turned the laptop off and when I turned it back on, the icon was back. I've also got vista.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

That's a bit strange isn't it? Hmmm, I have switched it off and on again but it hasn't returned yet. I sometimes wonder about Vista.... lol

if it was there before then it should still be unless its been unticked but u dont seem to know how to do that.

try rebooting the computer. there isn't really a real need for this unless ur a geek and like to watch the monitors flash when something happens ;)

In the search box (Start menu search box) type ncpa.cpl and up should pop the network connection list;)

Ah, I'm thankfully not quite as thick as I though I was lol. I did get this far previously, but the pic you posted is not quite the same as appears for me - there is no option to tick or untick anything I'm afraid. ??

In Vista I think the option might be hidden:

    1. Go to the start icon image002.jpgin The left corner of the Windows Vista desktop.
    2. Right click on it for a menu to appear.
    3. Choose Properties from the menu
    4. The taskbar and start menu properties will appear.
    5. Go to the notification tab.
    6. Tick the box next to network to show the network connections icon.
    7. Press apply and Ok.
