A good place to try in these type of situations is a patients organisation as they often have schemes with sympthetic Insurers. Have a look at this link and the rest of the website, you may also find some useful pointers from people who have had a similar situation in the forum on that website

  • Ok finally got time tonight to sit and do this. Club direct, staysure, post office, lloyds tsb can all be added to these list of companies who have declined her cover. I will be sticking with age concern as I got cover for a week for under £70. Thank you all so so much for all of your help. I really do appreciate it.

We are currently using Columbus for Travel Insurance with pre-existing conditions. Very reasonable premium.

I'd posted a similar question on the health forum. We've now insured my dad for £98 with Columbus.

    Hello,
Both me and my OH have what they class as "Pre-Existing Medical Conditions" and for our trip this year and our trip two years ago to the US Columbus was the cheapest and easiest site to use.

They can often give you a decision online for some of the more common PEMC (like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, labyrinthitis etc) whereas in my experience most of the others cannot and its a lengthy process. My advice would be to try Columbus.

  • CF is a pain to try and get insurance for (in know first hand) I got annual worldwide cover for £85 from Insurance choice but it was with Fortis who ask that you haven't had an admission in the past year but they are a broker so will try other companies for you. Pop over to the CF forums theres plenty of topics about travel insurance on there that will help :)

Just noticed this thread is a month old,so hope you managed to get it by now.

    Fortis are underwriters not brokers.

Fortis wouldn't insure my wife's PEMCs.

It has nothing to do with the insurance company - the deciding factor is the medical condition.

Example - I will cover you no questions asked with only one condition. I will pay out in 7 days of the claim and again no questions asked.

Your only condition is that your policy is restricted to £½million.

Your premium (the cost of this policy) is £1million!

Your still insured! - But is it worth it?
