Travel insurance - with pre existing medical conditions

Can anyone give me a heads up on what companies cover pre-existing conditions. The best quote I have so far is from age concern. I have tried free spirit, heath lambert, thomson's insurance provider who all provide a quote but are over £200. Marks and spencer, medici travel won't cover at all.

Can anyone help with other companies that are worth trying or is there a discussion on this somewhere please?

Thank you

    There is some information here:-

There is also a long topic on insurance with PEMC's here:-

You could try Columbus Direct or Direct Travel

Try Fortis either direct or through the post office their PEMC's are pretty lenient.

AXA is not a good IC and the M&S policy is an AXA one. - Stay away from AXA and White Horse if you want my opinion.

Depends on what the medical condition is - is it something that is still ongoing? We managed to get insurance for my mum with onestop insurance as she had high blood pressure in the last 2 yrs and they said it didnt matter to them x

Some policies already cover pre-existing conditions as long as they are controlled and there hasn't been any hospitalisation in the past 12 months. My hubby has a pre-existing condition and we have always been able to find insurance fairly cheaply through money supermarket.

  • Hi,

I have the same problem with getting insurance. We needed annual worldwide insurance and after searching through loads of price comparison and individual websites, I found Club Direct to be the cheapest.

    Hope this helps.
  • Don't forget that (obviously depending on the condition) you can buy normal travel insurance but just aren't covered for the existing condition. But it depends on how often and in what way your condition can/does affect you.

Fortis wouldn't insure my wife's PEMCs.
  • Axa and fortis as underwriters and the post office will not touch us.

It is for a 6 year old who has cystic fibrosis and was hospitalised for 2 weeks last month - that is out major stumbling block. This was her 1st admission for 3 years and she usually keeps really well. The other problem is that she has over 8 medications daily - that seems to scare them off, but she has them to stay well its so frustrating  We have to cover her though, as you never know what can happen and I'd never risk landing myself with a huge bill to pay if she got ill abroad.

Will have a proper search again tomorrow but just wanted to thank you all so much for your help so far. Will let you know how I get on.
