SDLT Form - self completion?

I'm just looking at my solicitors schedule... (Conveyancing Warehouse - Roberts Solicitors)
One of the extra's they charge for is the completion of the SDLT form...
It's not much (£39 +vat) and they outline the time frame for doing it but if is a half an hour job and the information it requires is generally at hand then I would rather do it myself and save the money.
Apparently it is four pages long, any thoughts on whether Joe Public could/should do it themselves?
Cheers

i see no reason why you cannot do it yourself0

As long as you follow the guidlines then you should be able to fill it in yourself.
I was lucky and only had to sign mine but I looked at it and it seemed straight forward enough. I asked my Sol if I needed to fill it in or was I going to be charged extra for him doing it and he said no as it really was only a five minute job once you knew all the codes. He said it was time consuming if you didnt know the codes and had to look them up but hey he had plenty of experience

Thanks Suki....
I'll give it a try... it can't be much worse than a self assessment form...or can it? :P
£9000+ in unfair tax and the government still have to make it hard for you! :mad:0 -
I do these occassionally as I work for a solicitor and I would say once you've done one, they are quite simple, but it is true with the code thing. It will take you a while, but there is a guide that comes with it.0

I received my SDLT from my solicitor today...
Unfortunately they didn't include the explainatory leaflet, but I have found this on the IR website.
Whilst there I noticed that they mention online completion and payment of the SDLT. I ahve filed tax returns before online so logged in to see if I could do the SDLT. Once logged in I could not find the option anywhere for SDLT, also you can add extra services but this option isn't shown.
So is online SDLT only available to a few or are they just introducing it? Also I am not sure how this would work because my solicitors have said I need to return the completed form to them.0 -
Your Sol will need to submit the SDLT to the Inland Rev and get a certificate back before they can register your property.
If the form isn't sent to the IR within 30 days of completion you will be fined £100.
Good luck with the form I hate them!0
