Sky Accounts department are incompetent. Fact.

On the 4th June, I ordered Sky with Sky+ (before the free box offer) and paid £89 for a Sky+ box on my credit card (wise decision to use the c/card, this was). Arranged installation for the 24th June as it was the first Saturday I could get. All pleased and sorted.

Engineer arrives (5 mins before his allotted time schedule was up), scruffy as anything, not even in a genuine Sky van, with a young apprentice who spent the whole time on his phone. They look at my property and say: "I don't think that's going to get a good enough signal".

My flat backs onto the gardens of other houses in the street next to ours. I'm a first-floor flat and the houses are only two-storeys high, and probably no closer than 20ft. There's a flat to the left of ours which has Sky with no problems no more than 10m from where I wanted mine installed.

I requested that they check the signal, which they (somewhat grumpily) did. Bearing in mind that this was now 6.15pm and the apprentice was making calls home organising his night out... well, I can only speculate but I think they just didn't want to complete the installation.

They told me that I could only get a 2% signal, due to the houses behind my flat.. and we agreed at that point to cancel the installation.

Then the fun began...

I spoke to the Sky rep from the engineer's phone, and was told that my account would be cancelled, and my £89 refunded to my card within 24hrs. Being a weekend, I gave them until the Wednesday (28th) - no refund. At this point I cancelled the d/d they'd put on my current account too...

When I telephoned, I was told that they'd "not cancelled the job properly" (how you can half-cancel a job is beyond me), and that was why my monies hadn't been refunded. "it's being processed now and will be on your card within 48hrs" I was then told.

This morning - still no refund, so straight to the c/card issuers and request a clawback. They telephoned Sky... and found out why.

Sky had refunded my "Sky Account" with the £89 :rotfl:

How very useful to me, not (!), seeing as I don't have Sky... but how nice for them, my money, sat in their account!

So we'll see... apparently now my c/card company have spoken to Sky, they've realised their error and will be refunding my c/card within a couple of days...

Watch this space... I still think that's not likely...

On the engineer front - I'm going to get an independent specialist in to check the signal quality where I wanted to install the dish (there were no alternative spots where a better signal was likely, apparently), and if I find that the signal is suitable for Sky (I understand it's 40-50%+ that's 'acceptable'), I will make a formal complaint about the engineer and his lack of enthusiasm for completing an allocated job...

You have had a very very lucky escape.....go with freeview ;)

I have sky, for my sins, but I hope and pray nothing ever goes wrong on my account or with my box because the horror stories I have heard both on this site and from friends/family are enough to give up the will to live LOL The customer service dept is a total joke!

The worst ever one was my friends MIL who ended up with the police knocking on her door after a sky engineer said her husband had threatened him, because he refused to put the cable through the loft. That would have been impressive seeing as how my friends fil had died 13 years earlier.

It turns out that the engineer had reported the assault to sky and it was skys decision to involve the police....only they passed the wrong information on and gave the police my friends MIL address by mistake!
