GAS PRICE QUERY- an odd one?

Hi,
I have been keeping a daily record of my gas usage and in the last 24 hours i have used 5kwh of gas.
I am on meter with british gas and the rate is charged at 3.409.
I have worked out the price difference on the meter and it is saying i have used £2.41 of gas since yesterday.
now from my calculations this should of only cost me approx £1.70.
so why would it be different, at the price i paid in 24 hours its working out i am being charged a rate of around 0.459 .
Is this a mistake with the meter do you think or i am working it all out wrong.
thanks

3.409p is the price for each tier 2 unit.
Tier 1 units cost 8.341p each
Tier 1 units apply to initial 2680kWh per year"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi,
thanks the tier 1 unit is 8.341 but i thought i would have used up all the tier one price at the beginning of the year or is this not how it works. sorry i'm not very clued up when it comes to these things but the gas has been costing us £40 every 10 days so i've really been keeping an eye.
many thanks0 -
Depends on the supplier how many tier 1 units are charged and in what pattern. Most split it evenly over the year, so if you are charged 2680kWh at tier 1 per year, then the first 670kWh used every quarter will be charged at the tier 1 price.
Basically this is instead of a standing charge.
PS I assume you mean 50kWh per day in post 1? I would be impressed with 5kWh per day at this time of year!! I use more electric than that per day!0 -
Hi,
My gas meter reading yesterday was 712.696 and today it reads 717.944 so its 5kwh? or am i doing something wrong again lol0 -
Looks like your meter is reading in cubic metres (should say this on the front of the gas meter). So you've used 5.2 cubic metres over the period. To convert to kWh you can multiply by 11.3. So it looks as if you've used around 58kWh. I presume they will have charged the first 7 kWh at Tier 1 and the remainder at Tier 2. This comes to the figure they've given you.0

thanks so much for working that out for me, i have just completed my first 2 weeks now on imeasure and it has given me a B rating so i'm very happy with that especially with the colder weather we have been having.0

Well done :T
In 18 months on there I've never managed to get above a 'C' rating and usually hover around a 'D'.0 -
Its only the first 2 weeks so i'm not going to get to excited yet, its amazing how much more you do seem to think about turning lights off etc as you are always trying to better yourself ( well i am anyway seeing as i'm skint) . My next challenge is to try and cut down my electric use my average is 15kwh a day at the moment but i am running a dryer as we are a family of 5. Not sure what the average is on electric but again i want to better that its sort of addictive this saving energy, saving money lark.0

I think the bigger the family, the easier it is to get to a better i measure rating. We are a family of 2, so we compare against that group. My daily average electricity is 8 to 10 kWh per day. Ours came down from 17 kWh a day just by binning one freezer and replacing the kitchen fridge freezer with an A rated one. And it's certainly addictive when you realise how much you can save by doing the simple energy saving things.0
