Loft conversion in a steel pre-fabricated house?

Does anyone know if its possible? We live in a semi-detached typical style late 1950's pre-fab house (steel outer walls, steel roof). I've done extensive googling and it appears you can fit velux windows onto a metal roof easily enough (we'd be getting someone in to do it for us anyway).
Its just a steel roof/metal house is constructed differently to conventional houses - there is light visible around the edge of the loft and along the centre line when you look straight up into the loft - its meant to be like that but I'm not sure if it could be blocked off to enable a loft conversion to take place. Does anyone know?
