Thanks sizzler.
The OR`s agent has arranged to come out next week to value the car. Does anyone know whether I have to make an offer to him or to the OR? If I don`t agree with the valuation is there anything I can do about it?:pB&SC No. 298

i suspect you give the OR the offer, the person valuing it is just doing so on the ORs behalf.
edit ignore what i said, see post below!0 -

Hi dojoman
We had an agent come round to value our car. He dealt with everything. They already knew we wanted to buy the car back.
He took a thorough look at the car and then sat down with us and told us what he had valued it at. He supported this with paperwork from Parkers and had spoken to a few local garages to get an idea of re sell value.
I told him that the OR had said in my interview I would be allowed up to £1000 towards the car or a replacement but he said it was at his discretion (not the OR's) how much he would allow and he had decided to allow us £2000, the maximum he said he was able to go to. Taking into selling costs also he then gave us a figure he would be happy with for us (in our case, generous parents!) to purchase the car back. We didnt try and negotiate on this as we felt it was a fair price. I put him on the phone to my step dad who arranged to send him a cheque for what was agreed. And that was it all done and dusted. There was no involvement with the OR.
I would also add that he was such a nice gentleman, really sympathetic to our situation and genuinely wanted to sort the best solution out for both sides. He also offered his phone no if there was anything BR related he might be able to help us with in the future.
Good luck with your negotiations

Yep, generally the OR will empower the agents to take decisions on their behalf. THis is because the OR can then in future if challanged state that they had expert advice and received the best dealHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

Hi,
Just to add, when one of our deputy OR's visited the bureau 3 years ago, he told us that it cost them £400 to sell a car.
ps - interesting post by Angie !
Good luck.

Update on car: agent called early this morning and has valued the car £300 more than the figure the OR stated. Not sure what to do! I have got to let them know in the next 48 hours. He said the figure he has given me is the auction price, not sure whether to contact OR and tell him, and try and get the price reduced, or just let the car go. The distance from the agents office to my home is around 38 miles, and I was wondering whether they would be inclined to reduce the price due to the cost of transporting it back to their base.:pB&SC No. 298
