Found a friendly electrician direct from electrical wholesaler who supplied his number.
chap seems helpful and knowledgable. He done a good job on our external lights. He says he is part P registered and qualified for fuse boxes and can issue certificates etc.
Before he does some major work for me, i tried checking out the Niceic and Elecsa websites but cant find him listed.
any advice on if theres a different registration list for contractors or what to ask him?

why don't you ask him for his registration numbers then? it could be you are maybe mis-spelling his name or an initial? if he is worth his salt he will give you the reg number no problem and i would phone them up would be easier to check with someone on the other end.
Just remember its easy to say is part p registered than actually is. maybe hes lied to the wholesaler? eg his part p is lapsed?

Hi
My OH is an electrician and they don't have to be registered both NICEIC and Elecsa are subscription services and can be very expensive which may be why he is not registered with them. The easiest way is to ask to see his qualifications, the latest is 17th edition (city & guilds 2382) but he may still be 16th edition qualified. Also he may be registered with JIB (if he is he will have a card) which is the Joint Industry Board for Electrical Contracting - again this is a paid subsciption service.
Hope you manage to get it sorted0 -
Just a note. He might be JIB trained/approved but unless he employs people he cannot be JIB registered.
As you say membership of other organisations is expensive. He might have registered his qualifications with your local planning/building department.

NAPIT, BRE Certification Ltd and BSI are the other three registration bodies for electricians. Part P has a wider list depending on whether its Full Scope or Defined Scope self-certification. Which is it you are after?

You posted before I replied LoL. NAPIT are fine.just called him and he said he registered with NAPIT, and gives a certificate after any fuse box jobs. I not heard of NAPIT before but he seems like a trustworthy chap.
