Remote control for a pc?

Options
I have a pc hooked up to my lcd tv in my bedroom. I use the lcd to watch movies on whilst in bed.

However, it is a pain to have to get up and adjust volume etc when i', all snuggly in bed.

Is there a remote control for the pc that can adjust media settings? (also, i use several different media players, so would need to be able to either adjust each program or the pc media settings theirselves).

Do you have an iPod Touch/iPhone/Android Phone?

If so, you can download many applications which are used as remotes for many Media Players, such as VLC Media Player and iTunes.

I guess this depends on what hardware you have and which media centre software you are using.

You obviously need a receiver - generally infrared - on the PC, either built-in or as an add-on, such as the IR port on many Hauppauge TV cards.

If you get a standard Windows Media Centre remote, you should then be able to configure it to respond to that. I'm only familiar with MythTV, with which you just configure lirc for the correct type of remote, but I guess most other media centre packages will have something similar.

Wireless (bluetooth) mouse should sort you out, and will allow you to do alot more than any 'IR' TV type remote control.

if you drop a shortcut on your desktop to the built in windows 'on screen keyboard' you won;t need to get up to use the keyboard as much either.
