Parking???

Options
Hi

I wonder if anyone could help at all?

I have tickets to see the Lion King on 04/02/10 and, have so far looked at getting there from where I live (Portsmouth) by several means (train, coach/bus & driving).

Currently, (last checked this week-end) I can get into London for a couple of pounds via megatrain but cannot get back for a similar cost after the show :mad:

Can anyone advise if there is cheap / suitable parking near to Covent Garden or if I would be better off possibly driving to the outskirts of London and getting a tube in?

We are going to the Lyceum Theatre (Wellington St, WC2E 7RQ).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

UKD

The show starts @ 7 or 7.30pm if memory serves and is advertised as running for 2:45, so an approx finish of 10:15 / 10:30 by the time we should of exited the theatre.

Why not park in Richmond- Old Deer Park. It's right by the station and you can tube up or get the train in (10 mins). Parking is cheap, and we've never had problems parking there. We've used it lots and we travel from Southampton right up to end of M3 and it's a case of follow the signs. Incidentally it's free to park on sundays- although lots of places are.

You may also want to consider Kingston as this may be easier from Portsmouth as it'll be easy enough to get a train in from there.

Parking around the theatre will be VERY expensive and it'll take quite some time to drive in and find somewhere so I'd save the hassle and park on the outskirts.

I always drive into the west end and have never had any problems with parking to be honest.

You might want to consider trying to park off shaftesbury avenue or off regent street (if you dont mind walking) is usually ok it depends on the time you are planning to get there for?
Also consider clerkenwell way and get a bus to the theatre. I think you also need to consider whether you mind paying the C Charge which ends at 6.

I usually time all my journeys to pass the charge minutes after 6 then that leaves me time to find parking, my usual area is for pay and display is off Regent street.

After 7pm it is free to park on single yellow lines in the West end if the show starts at 7.30 that could be an option. and also pay meters usually end in some areas end at 6.30 so if you time it right may only have to pay for 1/2 hour or so.

or there is an NCP parking off oxford street behind John Lewis

Hope this helps and enjoy the show

I also always drive to the West End. I use the NCP on Holborn which is pricey but if the whole family go it is cheaper and easier than the train. I normally pay around £20, the price is a lot cheaper after 6pm. Have a look on the NCP website.

Used to get the train until one day it took over 4 hours to get home for a journey that takes 1 hour in the car.
  • I went to see Dirty Dancing last week, and parked in road behind the theatre that Loin King is at with no problems for free and as far as I know its after 6.30pm on single yellow lines aswell...well I parked on one that night at 6.30pm,I have parked for years around the area and never had any trouble getting a space.Just remember the tescos on the A4 just past Hammersmith is where the CC starts but its easy to time yourself to pass that after 6pm and get to centre for 6.30pm no problems.
