Not sure if this is the correct place for this - Looking at going camping with my DD (6) and OH.
I started buying up the big things like Tent/Camp bed last year, but then gave up. Now the time is drawing closer to actually going camping and I have realised that I dont have a clue what all Im going to need.....
Any suggestions please - also - where to get things.
Thanks

Thats great, Ill have a look on there, thanks to both of you :T0 -
Go outdoors have a wide selection of gear and a lot of items you can get away with spending very small amounts of money.
One item I wouldn't skimp on is sleeping bags - pay the most you can afford.0 -
My local SportsDirect had a lot of camping stuff in the sales recently

Also one of the pound shops does lots of camping things, not brilliant quality but always been good enough to see me through summer festivals etc.. I am not too sure if they would have anything in at this time of year though?0 -
UKCS has a list of (alleged) essentials too http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=7 - Can't say I take everything, but it's a good starting point!
Enjoy!

for the first camp, try to borrow or perhaps do it cheap to check you like it.
for example the first time we camped we used a tent from our scout group and we slept on several blankets on the floor rather than spend loads on air beds etc. Not ideal but there are six of us and airbed or similar worked out expensive if we then found we disliked it.
first camp was only two nights, so it gave us an idea of whether we liked it or not. We did so went and brought the proper stuff.
Do pop onto www.ukcampsite.co.uk as others have mentioned. Free to join and post, ask any question and you usually get an answer0 -
just to add most important thing - loo roll lol i thought all campsite would provide but found out to our ummmmm discomfort that the first 2 sites (which were lovely) provided showers and loos and dish washing facilities but no loo paper

can i also suggest to keep an eye out especially in the home bargins/pound shops for a storage basket with a handle (they do small ones) these are brill for taking the dishes to the sinks x x x:happyhear YUMMY MUMMY TO HENRY BEAR AGED 10:happyhearslimming world need to get back to target 25lb to goDisney World here we come May 2018:j0 -
Also you can skimp on certain things like plastic plates from pounland, and our LED lights also came from there and are brill. But please don;t skimp on the real essentials ... The tent and the sleeping bag.
Ask for advice on tents on UKCS and I can tell you from bitter experiance, a cheap sleeping bag is a night mare. I brought my four kids decent one, but brought myself and OH a cheap one each from Tescos. In fact i brought myself too as I hate the confined feeling in bag. They was fine in the summer, but the following yr we went at Easter. During the day the kids were in t shirts ( it was that warm) but at night the temp dropped right down. I was SO cold that one night I make OH drive to a tesco as I was going to buy a duvet or something ( the store was being refurbished and had no homewares) I slept in fleecy PJ Hoodie jumper thermal socks plus another jumper round my feet, and I was still cold. Went out after that camp and upgrade both sleeping bags. They were a false economy, cheapest isn't always best0 -
don't know if you have a set place in mind already for camping.. but I know of a brilliant caravan in wales you might be interested in - if you want you could pitch a tent next to the caravan without the worry of buying everything you need...
For £200 for the week the owner supplies all the bedding, gas electric for the caravan. It is in a beautiful location and may be cheaper than buying loads of stuff... just a thought. If you are interested his website is http:// brianplattcaravan.webs.com without the spaceBaby due 4th May 2013
