Help please. Just cleaned the touchpad on my son's laptop with a damp cloth and now it keeps freezing/locking.
Advice needed please on what to do, especially if it locks. Are there any keyboard options as I am having to switch it all off and start again?

Blow away any debris; take a look at the touchpad applet and make sure all the settings are correct - sometimes differs on each laptop.0

Thanks for your quick reply busenbust. I've switched it off and 'jiggled it' about carefully to see if anything was dislodged. How do I look at the touch applet and check the settings please? (it's a HP G70 laptop)0

I've gone to the Control Panel and found 'mouse' under the Hardware section.
I've looked through all the different headings and everything seems to be okay but not sure what I should be looking for exactly (you may tell that I am abit of a technophobe). It does say that the device is working normally though, and touch wood - it seems okay at the moment.
If it DOES freeze again, are there any keyboard options to move the cursor?0 -
I've gone to the Control Panel and found 'mouse' under the Hardware section.
That refers (often) to the generic external mouse; you should have an applet that specifies touch-pad settings; take a look also in your Start/Programs menu.0 -
Hi busenbust. The control panel, hardware 'mouse' option DID refer to the Synaptics touchpad and listed buttons, pointers, pointer options, wheel, hardware and device settings for this under 'mouse properties' so I assume I found the right thing.0

Hi busenbust. Thank you for your time and patience, it is much appreciated.
As I mentioned previously, I am not really sure what I should have been looking for, or amended in the touchpad options. However, I THINK (fingers crossed) that the problem has ceased, so perhaps it was debris causing the problem and my gently 'jiggling' the laptop when switched off, remedied the situation.
Once again, many thanks for your help.0 -
