What are we entitled to???

Hi All,

Excuse the bleeding stupidity but the local Jobcentre staff ar eabout as useful as a chocolate kettle.....

Im a dad of one young, beautiful baby girl, (currently 18 weeks old), I work Full time and earn a low income and my partner (the mother) is on maternity leave from a part time postition also low income.

we privately rent and already recieve Child Benefit but were wondering what else is out there for us to make use of... We dont want to sponge off the state or make false claims.... everything above board and coasher!!!!

Any help would be helpful... obviously lol

thanks

Simon

go to http://www.entitledto.co.uk/Default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 and put in all your details , its not always accurate but you might be entilted to some housing benefit and council tax benefit, you will also need to check your local housing rate. go to https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/Secure/Default.aspx first to find out the going rate for your area as you will need this at the entitled to site

You'll be entitled to working tax credits and child tax credits if your income is low enough.

Child tax credits absolutely certainly, plus you possibly could get the £500 sure start grant if income is low enough. Pop your details into https://www.entitledto.com

child tax credit definately, but I think you need to have claimed a surestart maternity grant within 3 months of the birth of your baby.

As others have mentioned there are some good websites that can give you an idea of entitlement.

And don't knock yourself for not knowing. The benefits system is hard work if you've never had to access it before, and often the people who you think would be helpful, ie the jobcentre plus, aren't much use.

Nothing against jocentre plus staff though, I'm sure they want to help more, but often don't have the time, resources or enough training.
