Electric window on Ford KA not opening

Hi, back in summer when we had that 1 very very hot day my driver's side window stopped working. It opens about half an inch (so I'm assuming it's not the electrics...?) then seems to get stuck, but it will go back up when you press the button again.

I have been living with it like that fine but it is quite irritating in carparks etc so I was just wondering if anyone could think of why this might have happened and how easy it might be to fix it, I doubt it's something I could do myself so if it does need to go into the garage it would be good to know beforehand whether it sounds like it might be a big job (though I appreciate it's very hard to know without seeing it)

im going to hazard a guess at just pure flilth in the actuators and mechanisms etc.

i wouldnt say big job at all, cleaning and greasing, as long as you take it to a good honest workshop.
  • Theres some very helpful people over on the KA forum/website.

Might be a simple job, with the hardest part getting the door card removed.
  • Does the window get stuck after 1 button depress or can you 'jog' the window down by repeatedly pressing the button?
The reason I ask, my car had the latter problem and I found out on the web the window could be 'reset'. By holding the button down before inserting the ignition key to position 2, hold button for 10 secs or so and this resets the windows safety features, you know, the anti-pinch that stops childrens heads getting squished like melons if they choose to stick their nut out the car!?!
  • Nope, you can't jog it. But I will try the reset thing, worth giving it a go.
Will also look at the forum and if not take it to the garage. Thanks for all the info and help.
  • I had this on a couple of friends cars. There is a plastic cover in the door which seems to cover part of the lock and this had come away from the door getting in the way of the window.
  • Buy a tin of silicone lubricant and spray the seals upon which the window slides, before you do anything else.
  • Cool, thanks, I will try that asap!
