    Hi,

You'll need to tell your car insurer that you are going and will prob have to pay a sml supplement. Ours was £15.75 for 7 days.

I read in the Daily Mail last year, that if you were going for a week, it was cheaper to get 2 day returns and just use half of each. I notice on the P&O website it says you must complete both parts of the journey, but nothing on Sea France.

I just wondered if anyone has tried this?

To clear up a few issues:

First Aid Kit - Not Compulsory
Warning Triangle - Not Compulsory (though your hazards must be functional)
Hi Vis Jacket - Not Compulsory
    Spare Bulbs - Not Complulsory
    Fire Extinguishers - Not Compulsory
GB Sticker - Compulsory (or on plate)
Seat Belts - Compulsory Front & Rear

As for timings on autoroutes never heard of anybody being prosecuted but it could happen.

Priorité à droite is getting less and less these days and the Diamond sign is still a fairly valid indicator but a lot of areas have big signs warning that other vehicles have Priorité à droite on that particular road. As for the villages though, just take it easy! Roundabouts are mainly Give Way but there are still the odd ones with Priorité à droite such as the Arc de Triomphe.

Try to get out of Calais though (I hate it) and explore some of the beautiful countryside in Northern France.

Ypres just over the Belgium border is easily doable on a day trip, and well worth it.
Belgium is cheaper for fags and fuel too than in France. The border control looked like it had shut in 1990 on the road we were on!

If you exit Calais towards Boulogne on the A16, then come off to head for Coquelles and Sangatte, that's more or less the start of a surprisingly pleasant run along the coast road to Boulogne. It's a very easy run, just take a map, just in case. If you stop off at Cap Gris Nez, there are plenty of old German fortifications to wander amongst, and great views accross to England. I think it's Cap Blanc Nez which has access to amazing beaches, sand as far as you can see. Anyway, plenty to explore along there, and not too taxing for a novice. If it's a nice day, you can always pick up some picnic stuff from one of the supermarkets. Auchan particularly always seems to have some great offers. Anyway have fun, taking the car is always the best bet for a day out.

Although it's a couple of years since I last took the car to France, I've always gone to information desk at the ferry or Tunnel and asked for a GB sticker which they've given for free.
