Meter Reading errors - By Scottish Power

Scottish Power have read my meter incorrectly about 2 years ago. They are charging me night rate for day electricity and night rate for day electricity so i am quids in. I have had to enter my own readings into my web based account and have had to enter them in the same transposed way as they are rejected if I enter them correctly. Each time I have entered my readings I have always emailed them and told them the error but they have taken no action. When they eventually discover the problem will I have to pay the balance I owe to them as I have made every reasonable effort to get them to put it right?

I can't see why you wouldn't be liable as you're using the electricity. Hope you're setting the money aside. Phone them up and tell them - I don't think the odd email will count as making every reasonable effort to tell them.

    Hi Big Mac 66

Sorry to hear about this billing error and also that we have failed to respond to previous emails you have sent in confirming the error.

If we have been billing your account incorrectly we need to rectify this as soon as possible. I would send an email to customer.services@scottishpower.co.uk enclosing details of previous emails sent. I would also title the email complaint due to previous emails not being responded to. Your email should be responded to within 5 working days.

It will be better to get this matter sorted as quickly as possible to save you receiving a large bill on your door. If you want me to look into this for you then send your details to our email address held within the profile page.

    Kind Regards

You could have a go along the lines of the Billing Code of conduct.
It doesn't quite cover your scenario, but if you can prove that you have been regularly advising them of the situation, you might get something.

Even best case scenario 12 months worth could be a big bill.
