Ceiling damage - what to do and how much?

I've been given £500 insurance cash to repair some damage to some escaping water from an upstairs boiler onto the ceiling below but am confused as to what I need done, so any help appreciated.
I have an artex ceiling, which has four 1-2 meter long water stains, with some additional marks being made to the paintwork which I also have money to repaint, which is fine.
With the ceiling, we'd be looking to replace the artex, presumably these days with a flat ceiling? In light of the water damage, do we need anything done to the plasterboard/anything else underneath?

It may well be that the plaster board is damaged and parts of it need replacing. A decent plasterer will cut out the affected areas and replace the plaster board, then skim over the whole ceiling. Should cost about £300 - £350.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
