  • Ambersuccubus - i know its not nice but he loves mash and hasnt noticed the difference yet as he eats it so quickly hehe -so we are sticking with that one for now! :D

He has occasionnaly had maybe a bite out of a raw carrot stick but thats as far as it will go and thats jaw dropping experience if he even manages that.

We started him eating prawns the other month - spiderman likes prawns and its the hulks favourite food too ;) - but tried that with veg and he didnt buy a word of it!

Sheperds pie is one of the kids favourite from an early age and when we went through the veg problem I used tinned carrots for a while and chopped them into tiny bits and added to the meat sauce they could see them but never said nothing - over the months I gradually increased the size and now they eat carrots ok ish - sweetcorn in lasagne worked as well - and mushy peas but not round ones lol. And they love carrot mash.

Could you try getting him to grow some this summer? My kids were much more interested when they had planted, watered and picked them. Except for carrots. Apparantly home grown carrots are just too "carrot-ty":rotfl: so I end up buying theirs from the supermarket!
  • thanks inspace - i may try a shepherds pie also - after all he does love meat and mash! he is not a fan of lasagne though he does like tri-colour pasta shapes - wont eat any other pasta - with a plain tomato sauce.

  • thanks jellymid - i really want to grow but we dont have much space - we have a yard rather than a garden and the dog would be in the pots - last year she broke through the plastic sheeting of the mini greenhouse i bought from aldi and made a lovely mess:( it would be nice though to do but i dont think its possible just yet!

If you have the time and the inclination have you thought about growing some veggies, get him involved from the start, even a few bits in pots on the patio lol. My kids aren't too bad with veggies, but I am amazed the extra stuff they will eat when they grew it. My son will not eat cooked peas at all-but all 3 muched on the raw ones straight from the pods like sweets over the summer. Found DS and his mates using the hose to rinse off fresh carrots/lettuce/toms/herbs as well. I mean 10 yr olds running around munching on healthy stuff amazing really rofl.
One of DD1's friends mum came around after we took her home as she was a bit worried her DD had mentioned eating leaves from the garden here. I explainned it was lettuce/herbs (my kids love chewing spearmint) and peas, she was amazed as her DD never ate veggies at home.

Opps I type too slow others posted the same idea whilst I was still typing lol

There are lots of ways of hiding veg. Making pumpkin lasagne, or spinach and ricotta canneloni, or bolognaise with onion and tomoatos finely chopped - all mixed in with the meal so there can be no picking.

I'm a 36 year old vegetarian (have been for 20 years) and hardly ever eat plain boiled veg. I don't like them. If you tried to feed me them I'd probably tell you I was full up too.

I do love veg - but I like it to me interesting.

If he likes baked beans could you not mix some peas in with them. The colour combination of orange and green is nice and they taste lovely mixed together. Might work!

    Bleugh. _pale_

    Sorry.

I'm also an old fart of a veggie; 25 years and counting. I only ever have plain boiled veg with a roast and that's covered in gravy; everything else is either roasted, braised, or cooked 'in' some way. However I have a DSD who can pick powdered basil out of a pasta sauce; so I know how you feel.

I think the fact that he eats fruit is brilliant; and giving him the choice of peas or carrots but no afters until he has eaten them [after all, he chose which one to have]. My latest trick is telling DSD that the roast parsnips taste slightly different to the roast spuds as we grew lots of different types last year and they are the sweetest ones that we have saved especially for her. :D 3 months and counting on that one.
