Before anyone starts commenting bout Hills, Burns, raw food, cooked food etc and what is best according to vets, whats best for high protein, low carbs or whatever, I aint interested and dont want to know. There's enough topics with all of that info in.
I just want help working out my maths and prices.
Lidl, 750g box/bag of Opticat biscuits = £ 1-99 (26.5p per 100g)
Tesco, 950g box of Go Cat indoor = £ 2-63 (£ 2-77 / kg)
Tesco, 2.25kg box of Tesco biscuits = £ 2-27 (£ 1-01 / kg)
Am I right in thinking that the Lidl biscuits are more expensive than the Tesco ones for the size box that they come in ?

The Lidl ones are £2.65 kg so they are more expensive than the large box from Tesco, but cheaper than Go Cat.0

A lot of stuff sold at Lidl's & Aldi ((ie Opticat) is just English rebranded German brands.0

Looks like the Tesco are cheapest by far, but you should also calculate the price per portion as you may need to feed more of one brand than the other. What are the recommended feed rates for a cat of the weight you have?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

2 cats - each get handful (approx 10g-15g) of biscuits twice a day (they get wet food as well)
So, Lidl are the middle one for cost, so if I can get fussy old cat to eat Lidl biscuits without chucking hairballs and sick up .. I should (in theory) be saving money.
Was on Opticat wet food but got Tesco wet food (early dec for xmas/new year) and have noticed difference in coats so going back to Opticat (plus its cheaper)0 -
Apologies Cally if wasn't clear, what are the recommended feed rates on the packets of each food? If, for example, it is recommended that you feed twice as much Tesco as Aldi to get the same level of vitamins and minerals then the gap in cost closes dramatically. If the manufacturer recommended feed rates are much the same then Tesco remains by far the cheapest as you calculated.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

not sure what recommended is cos chuck boxes out, i dont feed recommeded levels anyway cos got a fat cat on diet n got old fussy cat with renal failure n over active thyroid so is fed in smaller amounts which is suiting her and keeping her weight stable which is what we (me n vet) wanting0

I don't have much to add except to say keep a close eye on shelf prices of Tesco cat biscuits. For a long time the 5kg bags were cheaper than both the boxes and 2.25kg bags so we bought those for Lily. Recently we have started buying the 2.25kg bags because 2 of those work out cheaper than a 5kg bag.
Last time we bought a 2.25kg bag it cost £2.22 and the 5kg bag cost £5.50. For a long time though the 5kg bags were only £4 so we were buying those.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
thanks shelly, i know what you mean, i looked at the price of tesco pouches online and the 24 pack was £5-10 where a 12 pack was only £2-51 so £5-01 for 20

I admit to being caught out before when in a hurryNow though I double check everything.
Just this week we were going to buy a big bag of pasta but when checking prices it was cheaper to buy 2 small ones......anyway...I digress :rotfl::heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
