Tax Credits and 16yo.

Hi,

My DD is 16 just before the financial end of year 09/11 and looking at my TC estimate for 10/11 it looks as if she is not included (because of the large £ drop). She is still in school then though and planning on staying on in September for A-levels.

I know I need to tell them that she is staying on in September, but would the TC have been worked out because of her birthdate before april 5th so I need to update that as well?? Before or after her birthday??

  • Child tax credit will continue to the 31st of August following your child's 16th birthday. You can tell tax credits anytime after the 17th April that she will be continuing in full time non advanced education. Basically your entitlement for you daughter ends on the 31st of August and then restarts on the 1st September. So your payments are likely to be a bit different in September as although you can tell tax credits about the change before it has happended the system doesn't actually process it till on or around the 1st September.
