grace period for wftc

Hi I recently went back to work on the 1st oct last year, I am a single parent of 3 children working 17 hours a week for minimum wage, I am entitled to wftc, in work credit etc etc, My problem is that my employment is somewhat seasonal and has really slowed in the past month or so, and so my hours have all but dropped to some weeks only 10, but my boss has still paid me the set amount for 17 hrs at minimum wage so that I dont go without and I make it up when there are busier times during the month, so it evens out, my problem is that if I have a slow week the next week Im killing myself trying to catch up hours wise and always seem to be in arrears, to top it off after killing myself all day on saturday I realised my wages did not go into the bank the day before, so mentioned this and thought something would have been done, but checked my bank today and still nothing, I did text my boss mentioning that I needed her to put it in to the bank today as I needed money to live on but no reply, I am seething to say the least and feel like Im breaking my neck for nothing, what kind of grace period do WFTC give you if I was to finish and try to find another job, I am very hesitant to do this as do enjoy the work but dont like the situation I have found myself in, maybe I could just stick it out until somethingelse comes up, if that is what has to be done as I do not want to go back to income support or job seekers, it has taken many weeks of phone calls and chasing to get everything up and running with all the benefits I am entitled to, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and also could anyone tell me if I would still qualify for wftc if I was to do 17 hours split between 2 employers as in the area I live work is thin on the ground at this time of year.

  • Hi

thinking back I think (!) they gave me an extra month's worth of WTC. Don't hold me to that but I remember being pleasantly surprised by them. No doubt they'll call it an overpayment and I'll have to pay it back in April though ;)

Good luck with your job search. And good for you or not putting up with the carp.
  • Ahh the dreaded over payment!!! Haven't we all been there, I dont want to chance having to come off wftc so think I may have to bite the bullet and keep my eyes open elsewhere, thanks for replying so quick x

you may qualify for the 4 week run on but not everyone gets this, you'd need to ask the advisor at the time.

Also you can have as many jobs as you like as long as your hours total more than 16 per week

I don't think you would get the run on when only been working 3 months
also if you leave you will lose your in work credit
