192.com sell your data to debt collector and make a lot of it available on the web for FREE

Hi all

Sorry about the size of this post but I think this is important enough and I’ve tried to make it as complete and details as possible but keeping to the point at the same time.

The debt collection industry is a crowing business, and a ruthless with that.

Where do they get the information on your personal DATA? How do they find your name, address, telephone numbers…

Well unfortunately for us, this is also a rising opportunity for an increasing amount of companies to gather and sell our personal DATA.
Including the government

Try this. Go on 192.com and free search on it to see if you your name comes up. What is so scary is that this is free! Anybody can do it. Your EX, ID Fraudsters, want to be debt collectors, you name it!

My name did, together with my age, my postcode, and anybody living with me, girlfriend, etc, etc.

192.com why not just put a big sign up and give ID fraudster my bank account number and my PIN number also?

At a time where fraud has never been more present, DATA has never been as FREELY available as it is today.

There is a mention of a 192 Customer Services Manager called Zoe, She offers to help, but you need to PM her as she doesn’t seem to want to open up much on a forum. I would advise her to stick to the forum to show good will by being transparent, Private Message or email may help, but it all seems very dark and mysterious. Why not reassure as all at the same time.

What you can do about it?

Here is a way to reduce the amount of your personal DATA made widely available by these businesses. Even if we have not given consent for are data to be displayed on their sites/records.

1)Go to 192.com site and type your name, if it comes up, download form C01 (Record Correction Form) to get your details taken off the site, complete it in and send back to the address on the form. Also send a Section 10 notice to have all data removed from the site and records.
If you have any problems with this, a 192 Customer Services Manager kindly offers to help on a different forum. Contact ZOE (can't post link, but just google ZOE 192 and you'll get it)
I hope this is still valid and she didn’t get fired. And don’t use your normal Email for that (see note on pay as you go Email), they have enough info on you as it is, and you don’t need to provide them with your Email.

2)On your electoral roll, when filling it in, use the Opt out Option.

3)Make sure to ask your telephone service provider to be EX directory

4)Register with the TPS, (Telephone Preference Service)

5)Register with the MPS, (Mailing preference Service)

6)Make sure you have no personal details on other web sites, Chat/forums, etc, etc and if you do, take the same steps with them and remove the max data possible.
Never use your name in a forum, always a pseudo as do most people, but in addition I recommend you create a new Pay as you go Email address that you use for everything and anything. I call my one my Spamemail. Again use Pseudo for that.

7)You can also ask of course for the debt collector to remove your Telephone number from their data base/ records under the DPA. (more on this in the forum along with templates) send them the stop processing letter

Where do they get this info from?

Telephone numbers comes from OSIS database.

Address and more are provided from the Companies House (if you are a Director or Company Secretary). The government, local council and the list just goes on.

If anything, this will reduce the amount of useless phones calls and mailing. Adding to that it makes it that little harder for the fishers and ID fraudsters to get hold of your DATA.

If anybody can think of any other way, please add to my list.

Hope this helps a little. I’m sending my Section 10 in the morning.

  • Alarmed by the personal information available about me on 192.com I have requested all info removed.

For those of you who would like to do the same - you CAN email this request - even though they refused my first email requests and told me I must fax or post. I checked the Data Protection Act and hey presto the following email worked:

According to the Infomation Commissioner, the Data Protection act provides that "You can make a request of your personal information in writing, by post, email or fax." and added the link for the Information Commisssioner site where this is cited.

They are actioning my request :)

I am on the edited electrol roll so my details are not made avaliable to third parties.

I check my name on 192.COM and I was not on there.
  • My details are wrong on there. They say I am age bracket 54 - 59. Im 24. Its me because they have the name of my mum sister and brother with it and my dad who is no lonbger living.

You can go to all that effort to have your name removed: however there are tracing registers who will provide for a very modest subscription ( approx £5 for 5 searches) any past or current information. They also hold there own registers collected from different areas other than electoral rolls.

Think about that everytime Curry's or other organisations ask for your address etc.

They just amalgamate information and present it. I'm sure there are plenty of other information brokers. You would have to go right to the source if you were that bothered.

I'm from the 'nothing to hide' camp.
