I told them I had a full licence as well, if I get banned can I carry on, the policy doesn't say I need one, if I had one when I took out the policy, will it still pay for damage to my own car if I crash?

Dacouch has beat me to it again! The policy will contain a two clauses which cater for this:

The first will be in the accidental damage section and excludes accidental damage when the vehicle is being driven with your consent by someone who to your knowledge either has never held a licence to drive your car or who is disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence.

The second will be in the liability section and will exclude liability to third parties where the driver has never held a licence to drive your car or who is disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence.

Any answer from More Than yet, then?
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...
  • Well if he is allowed to carry on driving other cars despite no longer owning a vehicle, then surely I could ring up and get insurance to drive 'any other vehicle' despite not actually owning a car?

How would that conversation go? I hardly think they would give me insurance for a car I don't own, do you?

The way you are stating would cause problems, see my previous posts, not having the car when you take the policy out (Or renew) would certainly be a "Material Fact". This would give the Insurers a reason to void the policy and / or not pay the claim.

As with any insurance policy you must read the small print, More Than do not specify you still have to have the schedule car to be covered by the Driving Other Cars. If they threw out a claim on this basis (Assuming you had the car when you renewed or took cover out and disposed of it mid term) the Ombudsman will overule the Insurer. This advice may not be correct for all Insurers as it will depend on their specifi policy wording

The Ombudsman is consumer friendly and in most cases will rule in the consumers favour if the policy wording (Which is in effect a contract) is not specific or is badly worded. (See the earlier poster who copied and pasted his Quinn Policy which specifically states you have to have the schedule car, they put this specific wording in for a reason).
