Hello,
I am some advice on a trip to Rome later in the year. Ideally we were looking to go October time and with a budget of £500 ish for 2 of us. Does this sound feasible? Have been there quite a few years ago and stayed quite a distance away so we are ideally looking for something reasonably central, although dont mind a fair walk. Can anyone recomend the best companies/agents to go through? Have tried looking for flights and hotels separatley but it seems to come out at more money than the packages
! Any advice would be very welcome!

Book flights and accommodation seperately. I made the mistake of booking a hotel just a little too far out which meant I ended up doing far too much walking (take blister packs) and wished I was more central so I could stay out late in the evening and walk back to hotel.
You have to spend more to stay more central but this is one city you need to be central.
Best thing to do is join Trip Advisor and do a search in there. Tons of info and top tips and recommended hotels or flats. If you use a booking agent there is one bogus one on there, but a search will dig the name of that one out.
Have a lovely time.0 -
I would try both, get quotes on the prices together and seperate. The price can depend who you are travelling with, which airport, what time of year etc.
We managed to get a really good deal when we went, flights were only £50 inc taxes and hotel was fairly central, outside the Tritone Fountain in Piazza Barberini at £92 per night. We booked them seperately and we were there in June 2008.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

Thanks for your replies, will do a bit more homework. I have been on trip advisor but keep getting bogged down with the reviews, my hubby thinks I am over comlpicating it! Apart from the obvious, ie epedia, alitalia ect can anyone recomend any other agents/companies to look through?0

hi there - it should work out cheaper for flight and acc separately. we stayed here - http://www.hotelmellini.com/
and found it too be a nice - mid price - hotel. slightly cheaper because it is Vatican city side of the river be we found everything to be within pretty easy walking distance (I like to sight see on foot anyways). nice breakfast too - hot eggs freshly made rather then just continental.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

best thing to do with tripadvisor is just work your way down the list from the no 1 until you come to one that fits with your budget and preferences.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

Thanks Roxie, just spent the last 2 hours doing just that and cross referencing with last minute. Just cant seem to get it cheaper doing it seperatley, but managed to find a few options, all pretty central from £434-£525 all look ok and reviews seem good on an average. It seems every hotel has at least 1 really bad review! Have not come across the Melini yet but will check that out later, as we dont mind alot of walking, in fact I think we normally see so much more on foot than we would on buses etc and its half the fun trying to navigate about!0

The hotel we stayed at was Residence AT on Piazza Barberini. The only downside was that you have lots of stairs to climb to the rooms. Its not a hotel in the true sense of the word, more like hiring an apartment. But they were clean, modern, had basic tv, provided a decent cold breakfast and coffee at your requested time (room service) and the owner (lovely man) went out of his way to make sure we were happy with everything.

Also we booked our flights with www.jet2.com who regularly have special offers.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

Just had a quick check, for example, if you flew out on 16th October and came back on 19th, flights would be £110 for the two and hotel would be from £150 upwards for the entire stay, thats staying in a fairly central hotel with decent reviews. So your budget is doable!Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
