Hi,

Please can someone help. I've recently bought a refurbished IBM T41 Think pad. It's been working fine so far plugged into the broadband but today i've got a talktalk wireless router and i can't get it to connect at all unless it's plugged in. The Pc is working but not the laptop. I've spent hours trying to figure it out so i'm hoping someone more knowlegeable than me can.

When you are trying to connect via wireless make sure you unplug the ethernet cable first.
Are you using the windows wireless, or a connection manager?

Check the model of wireless card, some of the T41's just have wireless B and not G - so if your router/AP is set to G only, and not mixed mode, it will never connect.

Thanks davb i'm trying to connect it using the disk the router came with from talktalk. How do i find out what wireless card i've got? If it is B is there anyway at all of it being wireless?

If you look in device manager under network connections, can you see a model number for the wireless card - also what make/model of router do you have?
If you haven't got it, it may also be an idea to download the Access Connections software from the Lenovo support site - they have taken over Thinkpad from IBM.

It's a 11a/b/g wireless LAN Mini PCI Adap and the router is a HUAWEI Echolife HG520b. I'll go and download the softwear now. Thanks again.

    It is a bit iffy
What is your Operating System - XP
Also, there should be a 4 digit model code on the info plate on the bottom of the laptop - it will start with 237

It may be easier to download and install the System Update tool
This will get the model info from the BIOS and offer you the relevant driver updates and software for your particular PC. There will be a lot, so you can be selective.

The IBMs used to have their own software to control the wireless functions are you sure the wireless card is on?

    download that, run, follow instructions.

It will probably ask you which network you want to connect to this will either be in your instructions for the router of whatever you set it too.. it will probably ask you for a key as well this will also be in your instructions OR you should know it if you changed it..

    Good luck.,
